Abol Abbass Storage Dam & Hydropower Plant Project

Project Purpose / Layout

The primary purpose of the dam has been to utilize the water potential of the Abol Abbass River to irrigate the farmland located downstream villages of Mal Agha and Abol Abbass, but the purpose of the dam was changed to supply drinking water to cities of Izeh, Bagh Malek, Haft Gel and Ramhormoz due to the regional water demands.

Geographic Location

The dam site is situated 30-km west of city of Bagh Malek, near to village of Mal Agha, Khuzistan province in southwest of Iran.

Project History

The reconnaissance studies were assigned to Nahad Ab Consulting Company with the purpose of irrigating the farmland downstream the villages of Mal Agha and Abol Abbass in 2002. Nahad Ab Consulting Company reported the studies to the client in Jun.2003. The feasibility study and detailed design study were assigned to Mahab Ghodss Consulting Engineering Company in May2004 and in early 2007 respectively. The detailed design studies were reported to the client in late 2012.
