Groundwater Investigation for the Aquifer Utilization and Pollution in Tehran and Shahryar Plains

This project aims to investigate present and future condition of the aquifers under different scenarios to determine sustainable and optimum groundwater utilization plan to meet the water demands with minimum impact on the aquifer and water users.In this project, MGCE performed an extensive multidisciplinary study and initially determined the groundwater balance in this area. MGCE designed a conceptual model based on water balance data such as sources, sinks, and observation wells and topographic and bedrock elevation. Subsequently, MGCE developed a numerical model by the use of GMS 6.0, MODFLOW and MT3DS software. MGCE further simulated and validated the hydraulic and solute transport model and analyzed the effects of different groundwater utilization scenarios and impact of Tehran Sewage System projects on the aquifer.
