Integrated Planning Survey for Preparation of Countermeasures to Control the Sediment Flow into Anzali Wetland

Sediment issue is one of the biggest issues in the Anzali Wetland conservation. Some activities will be implemented to solve this issue under the project. As a part of the project activities, an “Integrated Planning Survey for Preparation of Countermeasures to Control the Sediment Flow into the Anzali Wetland” will be conducted by means of i) erosion and sediment control in the mountainous area, and ii) construction of sediment control structures in main river course such as debris flow dam, check dam, revetment, and sediment trap. Distribution plan of the structures shall be prepared based on erosion analysis, sediment movement analysis, etc. In addition, the planned structures shall be evaluated how they contribute to reducing the amount of sediment inflow to the wetland. Priority structures as result of the plan will be constructed after the survey, which will be implemented by a different contract from the Work.

  • The target area of the Work is Masal basin (Khalkai River basin and Morghak River basin), approximately 67,400 ha.
  • Prioritization of structures based on classified areas and sections of rivers, mountainous rivers/ streams, based on the erosion area types, type of rivers/ stream, and sections of rivers which are divided based on control points/ sub-control points.
  • preparing the term-based plans such as short-term (structures implemented within 5 years), medium-term plan (structures implemented within 10 years) and long-term plan (structures implemented on and after 10 years)

Study area includes Morghak(33Km) and Khalkai Rivers(34 Km).
