Project

Environmental Impacts Assessment (EIA) studies of Water Transfer from upper most Karun tributaries to Rafsanjan Plain

Objectives:
EIA studies of the project with respect to:

>  Environmental laws and regulations

>  Impact prediction of project alternatives

>  Mitigation plan

>  Environmental monitoring and Management plan

Main Topics

Study of Environmental Sitting of the  study area ,  including :

>  Physical environment and pollution

>  Biological environment
>  Socio-economical environment

Prediction and Assessment of Environmental Impacts of Project Alternatives:

>  "without project" (not implementing the project)
>  "with project" (implementing the project)
>  Construction phase impacts
>  Operation phase impacts
>  Analysis of alternatives

Preparing of Mitigation plan

>  Mitigation measures for reducing the negative impacts or enhancement of positive impacts.

Preparing of Environmental Monitoring and Management plan

>  Water quality monitoring plan
>  Socio-economical monitoring plan
>  Other environmental  factors monitoring plan
>  Institutional framework
>  Costs of implementation of mitigation plan

Project Study Area – Water transfer
( from Karun upstream to Rafsanjan plain ) – Iran

Parts of the direct impact area near the Sulekan reservoir which are classified as class III rangelands. These areas have been gradually changed to croplands. These abandoned infertile and ruined lands have been subject to significant loss of their agricultural capability in a short period due to degradation of valuable soil profiles

A community of Pteropyrum, Ebenus, Acantholimon near Allahabad
(where the pipeline will cross), which is characterized by its variety of endemic species

A view of the vegetation cover of  the water pipeline area – The pipeline will pass through a unique vegetation community in Tagestan pan which is mostly covered by ecologically valuable endemic species. This community inhabits a number of animal species.

A view of the Pistachio orchards in Rafsanjan pan. Transmission of water from Karun is expected to result in positive socio-economic impacts in the region by improved Pistachio orchards and export.
